WHERE TO STAY

AMALFI or RAVELLO?

Choosing between Amalfi and Ravello ultimately depends on your preferences and the type of experience you desire. The two towns are 10 minutes apart and both offer unique charms, incredible scenery, and a memorable experience on the Amalfi Coast. Our wedding "weekend" will take place in both towns, so you will get to experience the best of both no matter where you choose to stay. With that, we recommend reading the descriptions below and picking the town / accommodations that best suit your preferences and needs.

Transportation for the rehearsal dinner in Positano will depart from / return to Amalfi. We will also marry in the town center at the Amalfi Cathedral. We plan to bus everyone up the hill to Ravello for our reception at Villa Cimbrone. The buses will also bring you back down once the reception concludes. The exact drop off in Amalfi is TBD, but plan for a central drop off near the original pick up by the Amalfi Cathedral.

In addition to hotels, Ravello and Amalfi offer a number of charming private apartments, homes, villas, and bed & breakfast accommodations for your booking pleasure through your favorite travel booking websites. The Noe and Schiro families have booked villas to stay in via Airbnb/Vrbo. We think this is a great option for groups and couples, so we encourage you to explore our curated list of Amalfi & Ravello rentals below, in addition to hotels.

AMALFI

Amalfi is the seaside town that gives the coast its name. The vibrant town is known for its picturesque setting and rich history. It features a charming harbor, colorful buildings nestled against the cliffs, and narrow streets that wind through the town. Amalfi is home to several notable landmarks, including the stunning Duomo di Sant'Andrea (where we will marry), which showcases intricate Moorish-influenced architecture. You can explore the town's historic center, enjoy delicious local cuisine, and relax on the nearby beaches. Amalfi also serves as a transportation hub, making it a convenient base for exploring other towns along the Amalfi Coast.

Stay in Amalfi if you...
-Prefer a lively coastal town with a vibrant atmosphere
-Enjoy beach activities and water sports
-Want to explore historical landmarks and local culture
-Seek easy access to transportation for exploring the region

RAVELLO

Historic Ravello is a tranquil nearly exclusively pedestrian town resting upon a mountain buttress. The hilltop town is known for its breathtaking views and peaceful atmosphere. Perched high above the coast, Ravello offers panoramic vistas of the surrounding mountains and the sparkling Mediterranean Sea. The town is famous for its gardens, such as Villa Cimbrone (where we will eat, drink, and dance the night away) and Villa Rufolo, which feature lush greenery, vibrant flowers, and architectural marvels. Ravello is a haven for art and music lovers, hosting an annual summer music festival that attracts renowned artists from around the world. It is an ideal destination for those seeking a romantic and serene getaway.

Stay in Ravello if you...
-Crave breathtaking views and a serene hilltop setting
-Appreciate art, music, and cultural events
-Desire a peaceful and romantic atmosphere
-Prefer a slower-paced experience away from the crowds

GETTING TO THE COAST

✈︎

FROM ROME AIRPORT

Closest Airport with direct flights from the US: Rome-Fiumicino "Leonardo Da Vinci" Airport. Rome, Italy.

Flying into Rome is the most cost efficient way to travel to the Amalfi Coast. The most direct route is via a private car transfer. We suggest this for people traveling in a group who don't mind a bit of a car ride. The alternate option, which we recommend for most of our guests, is to take the train.

* TRAIN *
3.5 hour trip to Amalfi

We recommend the train for our guests arriving from Rome and think it will offer the best experience for the best price. You will first need to travel from Rome's Airport to Rome's Termini Station via the Leonardo Express train (20 minute trip). This service has departures scheduled every 15 minutes and the train station is conveniently located inside the airport. You can buy tickets inside the station at the Trenitalia ticket office or at the self service machines.

Once you've reached Rome's Termini Station, you will need to board the train to Salerno. It's suggested you take the high speed routes offered by Frecciarossa. This train will get you from Rome Termini to Salerno in 1.5 hours. You can book your train tickets in advance online on Trenitalia's website (linked below) or in person at the ticket office or the self service machines.

From Salerno, you will then need to exit the train station and take a cab or pre-arranged private transfer to Amalfi (45 minute - 1 hour drive).

If you'd rather forego the cliffside drive, you also have the option to take a cab to the Tra Vel Mar ferry in Salerno and arrive in Amalfia from the water. The Tra Vel Mar ferry gets you to Amalfi in just 35 minutes and for only €8. With this option it's important to note that you will need to take another cab from the ferry drop-off to get to your accommodations. This option does add a few extra steps, but what you give up in terms of convenience, you more than gain from your watery vantage.

* PRIVATE TRANSFER *
4 hour trip to Amalfi

Please find some recommended car companies that you can email to coordinate private or shared transportation to/from Rome and Amalfi. The final price is dependent upon the company you select, the number of people in your group, and if you'd like to coordinate one-way or round-trip transportation.

Most vans fit up to 8 people. For a group of 6-8 people, a large van comes out to about $100-120 USD/person.

Note: prices decrease per person when you travel with a larger group. We recommend coordinating transportation with others that you may be traveling with.

FROM NAPLES AIRPORT

Closest Airport to the Venue: Capodichino International Airport.
Naples, Italy.

If you want a seamless travel experience where you don't have to think about anything, we recommend traveling directly from the Naples Airport to Amalfi via taxi or a private car. That said, it's also very popular to travel from Naples Airport via train. If you opt for this option, it's important to note that you have to take a cab from Naples Airport to Naples Centrale Train Station to board the train. This train, however, will only take you as far as Sorrento, so you will need to grab another cab outside the station or arrange a private car transfer from Sorrento to Amalfi. With that, we think it's easiest and worth the extra dollars to travel by car, be it taxi or private transfer. If traveling in a group, a car will likely be cheaper.

* TAXI *
1.5 hour trip to Amalfi

A one-way trip from Naples airport to Amalfi Coast costs approximately €85, Taxis are available 24/7 at Naples Airport and can easily be located outside the Arrivals Terminal. Simply exit the Terminal doors and you’ll see the official airport taxi rank.

* PRIVATE CAR TRANSFER *
1.5 hour trip to Amalfi

Please find some recommended car companies that you can email to coordinate private or shared transportation to/from Naples and Amalfi. The final price is dependent upon the company you select, the number of people in your group, and if you'd like to coordinate one-way or round-trip transportation. Most of these fall around $30-$60 per person, per way.

Note: prices decrease per person when you travel with a larger group. We recommend coordinating transportation with others that you may be traveling with.

* TRAIN *
2.5 hour trip to Amalfi

As mentioned above, you will first need to make your way from Naples Airport to Naple's Centrale Train Station, either by taxi or by bus. Once there, it's suggested you take the Campania Express Train to Sorrento. The express takes 30 minutes less than the local Circumvesuviana line as it makes fewer stops.

Tickets can be purchased online through the official EAV Campania website (linked below) or in person at the ticket office or self-service machines.

Once you've reached Sorrento via train, you will exit the station and take a cab (or pre-arranged private transfer) for the final leg to Amalfi.

WHILE NOT SIPPING APEROL WITH US...

WITHIN AMALFI & RAVELLO

A myriad of activities await your enjoyment.

Ravello boasts two of the most iconic gardens of Italy which you can explore at Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone. We’re not sure which are more mesmerizing: the lush gardens or the breathtaking views!

Amalfi is a bustling town dotted with cozy streets and beach clubs to explore. Also home to the beautiful Duomo di Amalfi. It's a great launching spot for day trips to up and down the coast.

While restaurants, cafes, shops, museums, gelato stands, and churches abound, also available are Neopolitan cooking classes and regional wine tastings. Be sure to take a break, too, and sip espresso in the piazza while people watching with the locals.

BEYOND AMALFI & RAVELLO

After riding the cliff hugging, winding roads of the Amalfi coastline, once you arrive in Amalfi or Ravello’s mountaintop perch, you may prefer to plant your feet here for the duration of your stay as there is no quick jaunt down the mountain - no matter how fast you drive your Vespa!

However, Ravello & Amalfi are just two of the thirteen colorful towns dotting the majestic Amalfi Coast, in addition to the luxurious island of Capri, and all of them have something special to offer. Ranging from buzzy and vibrant to quiet and serene, we’re certain you’ll find your own coastal gem and local experiences to make memories that will last a lifetime. And when passing through Naples, be sure to visit the fascinating archeological site of Pompeii as it is not to be missed!

DAY TRIP TO CAPRI

Take a short boat trip to the famous island of Capri. The mystical, magical island of Capri has bewitched visitors for centuries. Located off the Bay of Naples, the island sits like a generous dollop of volcanic rock in the Tyrrhenian Sea. Small, steep, and cliff-laden, the landscape allows visitors to feel as though they’re suspended between two blue ethers—a sparkling sea of cobalt and an endless sky. As for the terrain, it’s blanketed with Mediterranean shrubs, blooming Broom flowers, Bougainvillea, and lemon trees. The citrus has become something of a motif of the island; lemon stands, lemon granitas, limoncello, and lemon-printed fashions abound on Capri.

There is no shortage of things to see and do in Capri. Capri is also home to the famous Blue Grotto.

A ferry leaves out of the Amalfi port and tickets can be purchased there.

HIKING THE AMALFI COAST

Like its northern rival, Cinque Terre, there are a lot of hiking trails on the Amalfi Coast. Spend a day hiking to the nearby towns of Amalfi to the west and Maiori to the east. Because Ravello is located high above its neighbors, the hike down is relatively simple. Although the trail is a bit steep and rocky at times, the views are out of this world.

The trail signage is very easy to follow, but you can pick up a free updated hiking map from the local tourism office, which is located across from Hotel Bonadies and the police department. Hiking back from Amalfi and Maiori may be more difficult after a day of sightseeing — especially if you add in a pizza and aperol spritz for lunch! — so you can take the local SITA bus back to town.

***

AMALFI LEMON EXPERIENCE

Lemons have been a significant part of Amalfi's heritage and economy for centuries. Visit these family-run lemon groves and experience an exciting day in nature discovering the authentic soul of Amalfi. Please see the link below for more details!

FURORE BEACH

Fiordo di Furore is one of the most iconic beaches on the coastline. So iconic, you're likely to recognize it. Used by Red Bull as an extreme diving site, this beach is nothing short of spectacular. There are a set of stairs that lead all the way down to the beach.
